The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire has issued a warning to management of hospitals across Nigeria against rejection of patients.
He described the recent act as unethical, urging Nigerians to report erring hospitals.
Ehanire issued the warning on Thursday in Abuja, at the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 press briefing.
Ehanire said: “It is unethical to reject patients who come to the hospital for treatment; such offenders should be reported.
“I also want to call on all healthcare facilities not to reject anyone seeking medical help, especially in an emergency situation.
“It is unethical to reject such a person in distress.”
He also urged Nigerians to report to the hospitals when sick and give accurate information, especially with regard to their travel history.
In the past few days, confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria have been on the rise.
On Thursday, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC, confirmed 681 cases of COVID-19, the highest number of new cases recorded in a day.
