Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has congratulated the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem.
The Senate confirmed her appointment last Thursday.
The body hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for resisting “the pressure mounted on him by some forces not to send her name to the Senate.”
The reaction was contained in a statement on Sunday by Bayo Oladeji, spokesman to CAN President, Samson Ayokunle.
CAN said it was aware of “the plot to deny her of the exalted office despite her enviable reputation and credential.”
The body stated that, “forces were frustrated with the resolve of the President to ensure justice and fairness prevail over selfish interest.”
Assuring that it will not stop praying for peace and unity in Nigeria, CAN told leaders to govern with the fear of God at all times.
“We will also continue to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as all our leaders at national, state and local government levels for God’s guidance, wisdom and protection.”
The statement wished Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem a successful tenure.
It prayed that God will grant her wisdom, courage and good health needed to serve and finish strong.
Before Dongban-Mensem’s elevation, retired Colonel Abubakar Umar warned Buhari against bias.
He condemned, “skewed” appointments by Buhari and accused him of favouring Northerners and Muslims.
