Nigeria striker and Liverpool loaner, Taiwo Awoniyi has thanked German Bundesliga club Mainz 05 and it’s medical team for resuscitating him after a horrible head collision during a Bundesliga match against Augsburg on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Nigerian forward was involved in a deadly collision with Augsburg’s defender Felix Uduokhai, landing on the pitch, while he passed out for minutes.
It took the help of the centre referee of the game Marco Fritz to keep Taiwo Awoniyi alive, as he forced his fingers into Awoniyi’s mouth, while they await the medical team at the stadium to take him for further treatment.
On Monday, the club took to Twitter to share a picture of the youngster in a medical facility where he looks happy to have survived the horrible accident, while he gave those who have been praying for his recovery a thumbs up.
In the caption, the Bundesliga club wrote: “Already on the road to recovery! Taiwo #Awoniyi sends his thanks to the Mainz medical staff and those at @UnimedizinM, as well as to his teammates.”
