Shortly after 30 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Ondo State within the space of one week, the State has recorded eight fresh cases.
The new cases were part of the figures released by the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control, NCDC, on Monday night.
In the last one week, the State has continued to record cases on a daily basis, with apprehension among residents and stakeholders of community transmission in full swing in the State.
With the lastest numbers from the NCDC, a total of 81 confirmed cases of the deadly virus have now been recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic in the State.
With Akure, the state capital being the epicenter of the virus in the state with 35 reported cases, the disease has been confirmed in 11 local government areas spreading across the three senatorial districts of the the State.
Meanwhile, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had on Monday expressed concern over the rising cases of the virus in the State, describing it as frightening and embarrassing with calls for urgent step to be taken.
Akeredolu also frowned at how residents of the State have continued to flout the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines.
“It is very important to note that the spread is now in all the four corners of our state. It has found habitat in all the three senatorial districts.
“From the Northern district through the central to the southern district, the raw facts stare us in the face that as individuals and communities, our efforts are not enough to protect us and our loved ones. Indeed we are facing the consequences of neglect and self-denial.
“From what we have seen so far, the danger and threats are far from being over and the number of our citizens infected may soar higher unless something drastic is done,” he said.
Nine people have so far been declared dead due to the disease with over 30 cases currently on admission at the state’s Infectious Disease Hospital, IDH.
