Akinyele Youth Forum, a youth organization in Akinyele Local Government Area, on Monday charged Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu and other stakeholders not to allow perpetrators of the recent killings in the local government go unpunished.
The youths made this declaration via a statement made available to DAILY POST in Ibadan, the State capital.
DAILY POST gathered that no fewer than three ladies have been killed by yet to be identified persons suspected to be rapists cum ritualists in the last two weeks in Akinyele local government area of Oyo State.
Grace Oshiagwu was raped and murdered at Idi-Ori, Sasa-Ojoo in Akinyele Local Government Area on Saturday.
Our correspondent recalls that the incident is coming barely two weeks after the death of Barakat Bello who was recently raped and murdered in Ibadan. Azeezat Shomuyiwa, another lady was also murdered by unknown assailants in the same local government area of the State.
DAILY POST, however, learnt that killers of the three victims are yet to be arrested.
But, Akinyele Youth Forum, while reacting, described the incidents as totally worrisome and disturbing.
The group also demanded for urgent action on sexual violence against women, especially teenage girls.
“We call on concerned authorities in Nigeria to demand for urgent action on sexual violence against women, especially our teenage girls who were raped to death by some suspected rapists in Akinyele Local Government area of lbadan, Oyo State. Although sexual assault occurs commonly worldwide, but the spate of killing of girls in Akinyele Local government nowadays deserves a special and immediate attention of all stakeholders.
“It is totally worrisome and disturbing, while we are still counting the loss of Barakat Bello, another gruesome death of a student of Oke Ogun Polytechnic occurred.
“With this development, it is totally barbaric to see this ugly incidents still continue to happen around us. It means the local government is not safe for females.
“At this point, we make a clarion call on police and other stakeholders to ensure speedy investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators,” they said.
