The Traditional Ruler of Ubulu Autonomous Community in Oru-west Local Government Area of Imo state, HRH Eze Victor Okeukwu has accused the Christian leaders in Igboland of paying mere lip service towards the abolition of the age-long Osu divide.
The monarch who is the chairman of Oru-west Council of Traditional Rulers spoke to DAILY POST on Tuesday at his palace.
He alleged that the Christian leaders who speak against the practice in public are the same ones who advise their children not to marry from such lineage.
According to him, “no amount of campaign by the clerics and other Christian leaders will put an end to the issue of ‘Osu’ in Igboland. It is not enough for them to preach against the practice on the pulpits until the traditional rulers in the region come together and perform necessary rituals and pronouncements, the practice will still be on.”
“Not every spiritual problem can be solved by Christian leaders, especially those that debase the tradition and custom of the people,” he added.
The monarch, however, advised religious leaders in the region to be bold enough to tell the people the best channel to follow in solving the problem.
