The Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko Jimeta today read the riot act to people bent on perpetrating rape and gender-based violence in the state.
He warned of the readiness of the police to deal with offenders decisively.
This is even as the state police revealed that it recently nabbed a man in Bauchi for defiling a 3-year-old child and seven other children.
Addressing journalists at the state police command headquarters in Bauchi, CP Jimeta lamented the increasing child molestation, rape and gender-based violence in the society.
He stated that often, parents of sexually molested children pressurise the police to drop their investigations in a bid to avoid going on in court.
According to the CP, “Some parents do come back and say that they don’t want any cases.”
Jimeta warned such parents to allow police to do their work in order to bring perpetrators to book and prevent a recurrence in the society.
He, however, admonished parents to always keep a tab on their children and ensure that they are adequately protected against predators waiting on the wings to prey on them.
Jimeta assured that the police in Bauchi State will join hands with human rights activists and organisations to fight the menace of rape and gender-based violence in the state.
While speaking on the menace, DCP Ali Audu informed that a man was recently arrested for defiling eight children whose ages range from three to five years.
He added that the culprit is already charged to court and the case is ongoing.
