Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi says he has directed his Deputy, to take over the reins of affairs in the state and continue the fight against the spread of COVID-19 in the state
Umahi who is expecting his COVID-19 test result from Abuja on Friday said he is prepared to go into self-isolation if his result returns positive.
The governor made this known while addressing stakeholders in the state during the swearing-in of new commissioners, special assistants and members of various boards, that took place at the ecumenical centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
According to him: “At the end of the fourth financial statement of the state, some of my colleagues tested positive to COVID-19. I and my Deputy tested negative.
“Again, I sent my sample and that of those who worked with us to Abuja for another COVID-19 test.
“The result will be out tomorrow and if any of us should test positive, we will work from home, but I will be directing that all those who worked with us in the budget review should immediately undergo a COVID test.
“So, if we test positive, my Deputy will carry on with the fight and we will now work from home. we must do our job, no retreat no surrender.
“Positive outcome is not a death sentence, and so we have to be very courageous in doing this because if you test positive and you take good care of yourself from the onset, you will be very well, just like all my cabinet members who tested positive and they were all restored to perfect health.
“This COVID matter, we will fight it to a reasonable level.
“Next week, we will have a public hearing on the proposal of our fight against COVID.
“Either I or the Deputy Governor will host that meeting. If I test positive, he will do it” he stated.
