The Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdul Wasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, has reacted to the face-off between palace officials and Prince Tijani Oniru, son of late Oniru.
Tijani was beaten up on Sunday by some men with “Security” inscribed on their T-shirts.
Video of the incident has gone viral.
A statement by Oniru media office on Monday, explained that security officers were supervising work being done by an Inventory and Enumeration team within Oniru Estate.
As they proceeded, Tijani and some men allegedly accosted them.
With tension rising, Tijani allegedly slapped the leader of the officials, Murisiku Ajasa.
This caused Ajasa’s entourage to pounce on him.
It took the intervention of Police operatives to calm the situation.
The statement said the Oniru has “ordered an investigation into both the incident and the conduct of the Palace officials”.
It noted that the monarch has repeatedly stated that he would not tolerate or condone any acts of violence, lawlessness and recourse to self-help”.
Oniru condemned the “provocative affront to the authority of the Oniru and desecration of tradition.”
Lawal, however, warned Palace officials to remain emotionally stable in the discharge of their duties, even in the face of provocation.
The Oba directed the Palace Administrator to immediately suspend the official involved in the incident pending full investigation.
He enjoined all parties to desist from all forms of violence and uphold peace, law and order.
Lawal restated his commitment to allow the law of the land to take it full course in this incident.
The statement said the Oba awaits the outcome of investigation by the Office of the Area J Poli6xe Commander, Area and DPO of Maroko Police Station.
The children of the late Oniru are insisting on maintaining control of some of the properties worth billions of naira.
But the new monarch, through his lawyer, Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), has asked all banks housing funds belonging to the royal family to immediately freeze all accounts.
