An Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, has warned fifth columnists against sowing seeds of discord to create confusion in the South-East zone, urging them to redirect their energies towards issues that would enhance peace and promotion of unity in Igbo land.
Ohanaeze also lauded the harmonious relationship existing between Igbo governors and Speakers of various State Houses of Assemblies in the zone, as exemplified by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the Speaker of Abia Assembly, Hon. Chinedum Orji.
It stressed that the duo’s partnership and peaceful co-existence had encouraged accelerated development as well as dispensation of democratic dividends to the doorsteps of the Abia masses.
However, OYC, in a press release signed by its President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and issued to reporters in Umuahia, on Friday, urged leaders to ignore the distractions from fifth columnists reaping from drumbeats of war,
The group reiterated its avowed cooperation and support for sustainable development in the South East region.
This came following the trending outbursts trailing the recent visit and reconciliation by the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, his son and the present Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji, with the Majority Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Kalu was governor of the State between 1999 to 2007 and currently, the leader of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, Caucus in Abia State.
Both former first families had been at loggerhead for the past 12 years over alleged political differences.
The purported reconciliation by both parties has continued to generate mixed feelings in the fold of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, with many PDP leaders describing the development as treacherous.
Reports had it that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji had led delegations from his Umuahia hometown and paid a solidarity visit to ex-Abia Governor, Senator Kalu at his Abuja residence, over his release from federal prison on alleged financial fraud.
Orji was quoted as asking Kalu to return and take his rightful position in the State and further described Kalu as an “Authentic leader” of Abia State.
