The office of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Adamawa State has been burgled.
The unidentified burglers made away with the flatscreen TV set and the StarTimes subscription modem of the correspondents.
The incident occurred on the very day scheduled for the inauguration of a set of members who had emerged days earlier as the new executives of the Chapel.
The correspondents had turned up for the inauguration on Saturday only to behold a broken window through which the smugglers entered the office, and a bare wall on which the flatscreen TV used to be.
The incident forced the change in venue for the EXCO inauguration from the office, famously called Correspondents’ Chapel Gallery, to the NUJ Press Centre within the same Ribadu Square neighbourhood of the state capital, Yola.
At the ceremony, Daji Sani of ThisDay newspaper was inaugurated as chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, with Hussaini Hammangabdo of Leadership as Vice Chairman.
Onimisi Alao of The Nation was inaugurated as Assistant Secretary, with Muhammed Auwal of NAN as Assistant Secretary.
Amina Abdullahi of Daily Trust and Fati Mohammed of DW Radio were inaugurated as Treasurer and Auditor, respectively.
The Chairman of the state Council of NUJ, Ishaku Dedan, who conducted the inauguration, urged the new Correspondents’ Chapel executives to function in accordance with the constitution of the NUJ.
