The Special Public Works (SPW) programme which was suspended by the National Assembly, has officially kicked off.
The federal government confirmed its take-off via its official Twitter handle, @NigeriaGov, on Tuesday.
“The State Selection Committees have been inaugurated and have commenced work,” the tweet read, before adding a link for the names and contact details of members of State Committees.
President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the programme, as part of the fiscal stimulus measures to cope with the COVID-19 outbreak and will see 1,000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local government areas engaged.
Earlier today, DAILY POST reported that the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, said he had gotten President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval, to go ahead with the recruitment.
Keyamo had clashed with lawmakers over the implementation of the programme.
