A former Kaduna Central district Senator, Shehu Sani has reacted to the deportation of Nigerians by the Government of Niger Republic.
He said the deportation may trigger an action that will not be helpful to the brotherly relationship that exists between the two countries.
The former lawmaker wondered why a country like Niger with hundreds of thousands of its citizens living in Nigeria for generations, should take such action.
DAILY POST reported that no fewer than 42 Nigerians were repatriated from the Niger Republic for entering the country without valid documents.
Abdullahi Dalhatu, Acting Controller, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Katsina State, disclosed this.
The deportees were returned to Nigeria through the NIS control post in Kongolam.
According to Sani, “With hundreds of thousands of Citizens of Niger Republic living in Nigeria for generations, in most parts of the north, deporting ’42’ Nigerians from Niger can only trigger an action that will not be helpful to the brotherly relationship that exists between the two countries.”
