A socio-political group, Concerned Citizens of Oyo State on Tuesday called on Governor Seyi Makinde to remove Dr. Samuel Ogundiran as the Chairman, Governing Council, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa.
The group says its call for Ogundiran’s sack is due to alleged financial misappropriation that characterized his tenure as chairman of the governing council of the institution during the tenure of the immediate past Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
DAILY POST gathered that Ogundiran was in May 2019 arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial misappropriation.
Among allegations against Ogundiran is that he illegally approved and paid furniture allowances to members of the Council. EFCC also invited council members for interrogations.
Ogundiran and other members of the council were arrested at the twilight of the administration of Ajimobi. Ogundiran alongside other members were taken to Iyaganku office of the anti-graft agency during their council meeting for investigation.
He was, however, reappointed by Governor Seyi Makinde as the Governing Council Chairman of the institution.
But, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mr Akinade Ogunsola and Secretary, Mr Taofeek Adedeji, the Concerned Citizens of Oyo State called on Makinde to appoint another person without a case at the EFCC.
The group in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday said it would be disastrous to appoint an individual facing issues that border on financial misappropriation as chairman of an institution where characters are being moulded and future generations empowered.
The group said that the visitation panel was set-up by the immediate past administration of late Gov. Abiola Ajimobi and the report submitted to the governor’s office on Feb. 19, 2020.
According to the white paper made available to DAILY POST, “Ogundiran and other members of the council were indicted by recommendation 27 and 28 which affirmed overpayment of allowances to them.”
The group said, “We are calling on Gov. Seyi Makinde to remove Ogundiran as Chairman, Governing Council of the institution based on the white paper report of the visitation panel which indicted him and some others.
“Also, this institution is owned by the entire state and not Ibarapa, so we want the governor to look into the domineering posture of the Ibarapa people in the governance of the institution”.
The group said that the personality in question was also under EFCC investigation and should by now be left to clear himself of the allegation and indictment by the white paper.
It said that the suspended acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu is yet to be pronounced a criminal but was suspended to allow holistic investigation of the allegations.
