Chuks Ibegbu, the spokesman of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has reacted to the recent position of a Northern leader, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, on zoning Nigeria Presidency to the Southeast geopolitical zone.
Recall that Tanko Yakasai, a former Presidential Adviser, had advocated for an Igbo Presidency in 2023.
Yakasai said the Southeast should reach out to other parts of the country for support in producing Nigeria’s next president.
Speaking further, the elder statesman pointed out that the Southeast was the only part of Nigeria that was yet to produce a president.
According to Yakasai: “I have a lot of sympathies for the Igbos as far as producing a president for Nigeria is concerned. The South-West, South-South and the North have all tasted it but the South East has not tasted the Presidency”.
However, in a telephone interview with DAILY POST on Friday, Ibegbu, said that Yakassai has shown some level of patriotism by his stand.
He called on other patriotic statesmen in Nigeria to join him in championing Nigeria President of Igbo extraction come 2023.
His words, “Igbo land is not landlocked as said by Alhaji Yakasai. Almost half of Igbo territory was excised to Igbo neighbors after the civil war by the Mamman Nasir boundary adjustment with a view to make Igbo land a none maritime territory.
“Igbo land is a big maritime region until that deft and willful post-war exercise. Even then, Igbo land is still a maritime region even with the terrible act. We ask Yakassi to go back to his history and geography books even at his age now, to study the facts as they were before and are today.
“Ohanaeze lauds the South East Governors for the security outfit which they are now working hard to put in place while expressing hope that the second Niger bridge and the Enugu international airport will soon be completed as assured by the federal government”.
