The Federal Character Commission, FCC, on Tuesday cautioned government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs, to henceforth respect the federal character principles in every job recruitment process.
DAILY POST reports that this came from the Commissioner representing Enugu State in the FCC, Hon. Mrs. Ginika Tor while briefing journalists at the commission’s office in Enugu.
The commissioner, who is currently undertaking stakeholders’ engagement visits, said Enugu State citizens must get all their fair share of opportunities both at the Federal and the State level.
Tor lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for constituting and inaugurating the commission, stressing that with the dedication of the FCC chairman, Hajiya Muheeba Dankaka, every wrong done in the past with regards to Federal Character principle, would be addressed.
She declared that, “this press briefing is to sound a warning to the various MDAs, both at the State and Local Government level that it will no longer be business as usual.
“The Federal Character principle is a constitutional matter and the present team led by our chairman, Hajiya Muheeba Dankaka is no longer going to look the other way while our people are shortchanged as was happening before.
“Every employment process should be followed and what is due for the people of Enugu State should get to them. It is going to be a new dawn for them.
“We will follow things up from the point of advertisement of vacancy, publication of long list, short list and the final employment list.
“I assure our people that the FCC under the able-leadership of Hajiya Muheeba Dankaka will exercise every power that has been given by the Constitution to make sure that the right things are done,” she declared.
Tor, while cautioning the youths to stop falling victims to job fraudsters, expressed the commitment to “arrest the tendency where our brothers and sisters and the unsuspecting public fall victims to conmen and fraudsters who defraud them in the name of Federal Character Commission.
“If you are not sure about any job, walk in here at our Enugu office and seek clarifications, our doors are widely open.”
On her plans for the unemployed youths of the State, the Commissioner revealed that a portal was underway where the people could access information and upload their curriculum vitae.
According to her, “The essence of this is to enable people to reach us from every part of the world in case they are unable to come to our office here; they can upload their CV on our website. A YouTube channel is also part of our plan where we would be dishing out information as well to our people.
“It is my humble wish to use this opportunity to call on the people of Enugu State, especially our young boys and girls tpo always go out to apply for jobs, engage in productive activities instead of staying idle.
“We have started engaging the various stakeholders and this has taken us to His Excellency the Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who is so delighted and ready to partner with us; we have also visited the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, the Police Command, Radio Nigeria, among others.”
