The Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe has said this year’s Udiroko festival in Ado Ekiti will not be celebrated in a usual manner due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Udiroko is the annual festival in Ado Ekiti to mark the beginning of the new year in the Ado Ekiti calendar.
Speaking with DAILY POST in Ado, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe said the festival would be celebrated this year in very low key fashion on the 30th of this month as prayers would be held for Ado, Ekiti State and Nigeria.
Oba Adejugbe noted that the decision to celebrate in low key was to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the state and in compliance with the directive of the state government on the ban on large gatherings.
The monarch urged sons and daughters of Ado Ekiti to celebrate this year’s Udiroko in their respective homes.
Oba Adejugbe appealed to residents of Ekiti State to maintain a hygienic environment, ensure regular handwashing, use face masks, maintain physical distancing among other precautionary measures.
