The Federal Government has upgraded facilities at the Computer Emergency Response and Readiness Team Centre as part efforts to tackle cybercrimes in Nigeria.
The centre is under the supervision of the National Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, made the disclosure to PRNigeria’s Economic Confidential.
He noted that massive awareness about potential threats is a major key to curb cyberattacks.
“If you want to reduce the gravity of cybersecurity threats, create awareness. Let the people controlling emergency centres know what they should do at every point in time, especially online.
“When there are potential attacks on our banks and other financial institutions; or attempt to penetrate our data centre, government websites etc., our newly upgraded centre monitor 24/7.
“We block the attacks completely. In some cases, we notify the institutions ahead and give them professional guidance on how to curb the attack and forestall any further attempt”, Pantami said.
