The first son of the late traditional ruler of Awka-Etiti, late Igwe Akum Ojukwu; Chukwuma Ojukwu, has been assassinated by yet to be identified persons.
He was said to have been assassinated in the wee hours of Tuesday in his residence at Awka-Etiti community by armed men who were said to have stormed his residence in a bus and machete him to death.
DAILY POST learned that the body of the deceased which was discovered on Wednesday had machete cuts all over it,
including the head.
The news of his assassination has reportedly sent a wave of fear among members of the community.
An indigene of the community who pleaded anonymity said the victim who lives alone in his compound had gone to bed healthy the previous night.
“This is what we saw today (Tuesday) morning, and nobody was around with him to give hint on how he was assassinated. He was always alone in that his father’s palace, his mother and siblings never stayed with him in that palace after the death of his father, late Igwe Akum Ojukwu, who was our monarch”
According to him, “it is left for the police to do a discreet investigation to expose those behind the dastardly act to face the wrath of the law”, he stated.
Another indigene, who simply identified herself as Miss Roseline, said, “As you can see fear has gripped us, assassins stormed our community, killed the first son of our late monarch and left unchallenged the way they came. That means security in our community is porous.
“I was told they came on a bus but nobody could say the number of assassins that have shaken this community for two days now, putting everybody in fear of the unknown.
“If the assailants are not fished out that will mean that we will live in
perpetual fear of the unknown,” she further stated.
Attempts to reach the Anambra State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed on phone for confirmation was not possible as his phone number said he was presently not reachable.
