The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N1.8billion for the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
The fund is to procure and install automotive/mechatronics equipment in special centers.
The centres are located in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo, spoke to State House correspondents after Wednesday’s virtual FEC meeting in Abuja.
The minister noted that the approval also covers three pilot workshops and automotive service hubs.
“The reason for the project is that with the kind of vehicles being manufactured today, we need training institutes that will train our mechanics and our youths how to maintain and service these vehicles”, he said.
NADDC is the paratstal saddled with the responsibility of revitalising and growing Nigeria’s automotive sector.
