The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC), the apex Igbo socio-cultural youth organization, has commended the federal government for the revamp of the Onitsha Dry Sea Port in the South East zone.
It described the developmental stride as another demonstration of love by President Muhammadu Buhari to Ndigbo.
OYC, in a statement signed its President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and made available to DAILY POST on Thursday, posited that the rejigged Onitsha Dry Sea Port has brought relief and erased pains of Igbo businessmen on conveyance of goods in containers by road.
The Igbo youth group urged the Abia State government to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Transportation, for the actualization of Owerrinta Dry Sea Port in Abia State, for the benefits of Igbo businessmen residing in Aba and its environs.
According to the statement, “OYC lauds resuscitation of Onitsha Dry Sea Port in Anambra State as barges were seen moving simultaneously, containers in small quantities from Onne Port in Rivers State to Onitsha Port. OYC witnessed the flag off of the pilot Barge operations from Onitsha River Port to Onne, we thank our Igbo son, the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi for this historical report that will accelerate economic growth and developments in the Southeast region.
“South East was agog with celebrations over this landmark breakthrough initiated by the Ministry of Transportation to ensure increased business developments in the Southeast. We call on Igbos to relocate their business headquarters from South West and North to East and maximise the opportunities brought by the Barge operations at Onitsha Dry Sea Port”.
