Residents of Lagos State have expressed varying reactions to the decision of the state government, to impose a 24-hour curfew in the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement earlier today, declaring that the curfew begins at 4pm on Tuesday.
According to him, “As a government that is alive to its responsibility and has shown a commitment to the movement END SARS, we will not watch and allow anarchy in our dear state.”
The decision will end a 12-day protest across parts of Lagos, but some of them on social media have vowed to resume whenever the curfew is lifted.
Others have questioned the timing of the curfew and events that led to it.
@lalaakindoju: This curfew will not deter or discourage us. We will not be quiet. We hope y’all can arrest the thugs and we will continue making our demands.
@principe_viii: I cannot overemphasize this but WE CANNOT, ABSOLUTELY CANNOT AFFORD TO LET THE GOVERNMENT WIN. WE CAN’T #EndSARS
@Chydee: In a state like Lagos, how did you think it was a good idea to impose a curfew starting 4 hours after the announcement? How do you think people will get to their houses within 4 hours? How do you think the police we’ve been protesting against will treat those they see after 4pm?
@harrissonpedro: Curfew may come at 4pm but it’s still #EndSARS forever!
@raychellered: Tomorrow is the day to find how we can push our case to the ICC if it’s possible and there are enough grounds for it, please. I know we are mad about the curfew but please, don’t be discouraged or derailed. We can beat this, we have beaten everything they’ve thrown at us. #EndSARS
@tobinscoswag: This man legit declared a curfew that should take effect from 4pm at 12pm so that the people stuck in traffic can use the private jet the Lagos state government provided for everyone
@fisayosoyombo: Not surprised one bit that @jidesanwoolu has announced a 24-hour curfew in Lagos. The moment Godwin Obaseki did it in Edo, I knew many states would unleash the ‘Edo treatment’ on #EndSARS protesters. Imitation.
@BuSh__IgBoBoY: If you are at work in Lagos best to start heading home cos if 4pm catches you for road, I don’t want to imagine what these already bloodthirsty police people are looking forward to doing.
@trap_teflonDon: Now that there’s a curfew in Lagos, all the policemen that couldn’t stop the thugs will reappear. Copy/Paste #EndSARS
