Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar (retired) has called on youths in the nation to suspend the End SARS protest in order to give peace a chance.
Abubakar, who stated this while addressing Journalists in Minna on the End SARS issue, noted the need to halt the protest to also give room for dialogue.
According to him, “these unfortunate incident is causing serious concern to many Nigerians and if care is not taken, it might take the country to a point of return”
“I appeal to the youths who have strongly and clearly made their points to withdraw from streets and prepare for dialogue.”
He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to address their grievances as well as layout programmes that meet and addresses objective of their protest.
The elder statesman, however, decried the way the protest has been hijacked by criminals leading to violence destruction of both government and private properties in the country.
He further stated that as a result of the protest, hoodlums seized opportunity to criminally release prisoners from prisons in parts of the Nation.
“This development has forced government to send out security agencies to restore law and order which unfortunately further led to loss of more innocent lives in the country, ” the former Head of State added.
