Local Government health workers in Kogi State say they can longer guarantee industrial harmony in the face of percentage salary payment.
According to them, they find it difficult to meet up their daily needs as well as school fee and medical bills for their families, hence they have resolved to embark on “work to rule” action if their demands are not met.
It was reliably gathered that local government health workers only receive 80% of the state adopted Consolidated Health Salary Structure, (CONHESS).
Confirming this development to DAILY POST in a joint statement signed by the state chairman, Medical and Health Worker Union of Nigeria, Comrade Amari Gabriel and Secretary Comrade Rose Momoh on Friday, the union said health workers in the Local Government have been placed on 35 and 40 percent salaries for over five months.
The union noted that they have shown some understanding for the past five months due to the effect of the COVID-19 outbreak on the economy which also caused a reduction in the federation allocation.
According to them, there is a steady improvement in the allocation hence the need for the government to do the needful.
While reiterating that primary Health Care, PHC, remains the bedrock in achieving effective, efficient, quality, accessible and affordable health services to a wider population, the statement called on the governor to direct the immediate release of salaries to the state Primary Health Care Development Agency.
