Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode has reacted to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s victory as the first African to become the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO.
DAILY POST had reported that the Former Minister of Finance, emerged as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, WTO.
Iweala emerged winner after a highly competitive race, polling 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat her opponent, South Korea’s trade minister, Yoo Myung-hee.
Reacting, Kayode said the news of her emergence as WTO DG is a great one for Nigeria.
“Congratulations to our very own Ngozi Okonjo Iweala who has just been elected as the first African to ever head the World Trade Organisation.
“Great news for Nigeria,” he said.
Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye in a tweet via his Twitter account also said “Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala becomes the first African to head the World Trade Organization. Congratulations Nigeria.”
Also, a former presidential aspirant, Oby Ezekwesili, in a tweet via her Twitter account said Okonjo-Iweala’s victory is a huge brilliant outcome for global trade.
“Just a teeny-weeny bit of process left and Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala will be announced by the WTO as their next DG.
“This is a hugely brilliant outcome for global trade, for Africa and our African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and women everywhere.
“Big Congratulations,” she said.
