The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Cross River chapter, on Wednesday, embarked on an indefinite strike over the kidnapping of its member Dr Godwin Udo of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.
Dr Innocent Abang, the state Chairman of NMA who made this known to newsmen on Wednesday in Calabar said that Udo was kidnapped in his residence at Bateba Street on Nov. 1, NAN reports.
He said that the association had decided that anytime a medical Doctor was kidnapped, they would embark on an indefinite strike until the victim is released.
“It is sad that Udo has been kidnapped, and truthfully we just got to know about it on Tuesday.
“His car was left at the point where he was kidnapped at Bateba Street in Calabar, even though we don’t know who the perpetrators are ” he said.
Also, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the kidnap said the unit is doing its best to rescue the victim.
“The police are aware that Udo has been kidnapped.
“However, the Police Anti Kidnapping and Cultism unit is doing its best to ensure that he is being rescued.
“As of today, we were briefed that the kidnappers have called for ransom but we will make sure that they are being tracked,” she said.
