Olusegun Bamgbose, Esq., National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, has told President Muhammadu Buhari to effect the immediate sack of Garba Shehu, his Spokesman over what he described as a reckless reaction to the murder of 43 rice farmers in Borno State at the weekend.
Bamgbose said it was rather unfortunate and unbelievable that Garba Shehu, SSA to President on Media, decided to add insult to injury.
Shehu had said the murdered farmers never got clearance from the military to go out farming.
Speaking with BBC Hausa, Garba had said although he was not blaming the victims for the incident, the truth must be said.
Bamgbose noted that the horrific and heartless murder of the 43 agricultural workers in Zabarmari, Borno State, will be indelible in the memory of many Nigerians, especially the families of the victims.
“This is so disheartening and discouraging. This is purely discourteous. When has he become the Army spokesman?” The senior lawyer said while reacting to comment made by the presidential aide.
“This is a clear indication that Garba Shehu is heartless wicked and callous. He certainly lacks human sympathy. Would that be his opinion if one of the victims were his brother or uncle?” Bamgbose told DAILY POST.
“It’s so unfortunate that the Presidency is harbouring such an unscrupulous fellow. Were the farmers informed not to harvest or cultivate without the permission of the Army?
“This Buhari government is a very big disappointment. How could a Senior Special Assistant to the President make such a reckless and callous statement, at this hour of grief?
“It’s most unfortunate. It’s obvious that Garba Shehu is just after his daily food and not the welfare of Nigerians. This is what is referred to as selfishness. Let me, however, call on the government to immediately come up with a welfare plan for the families of the victims.”
