Human Trafficking: Our girls are subjected to serious humane situation that can’t be comprehend – Hon. Akande-Sadipe

A young lady has been rescued from a remote border town in Oman after being trapped for a year and six months by Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe with the support of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Nigerian Immigration.

Speaking to journalist shortly after her arrival, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, representing Oluyole Federal constituency in Oyo state and the Chairperson, Diaspora committee of the 9th Assembly of the House of Representatives lament how young Nigerian girls trafficked out of the country are subjected to serious humane situation that can’t be comprehend.

“As Nigerians, we need to begin to wake up and realized the value of NAPTIP and I want to use this opportunity to call on the Nigeria police to collaborate with NAPTIP to ensure that human traffickers are arrested and prosecuted. The immigration has been helpful as well, in as much as we want to reach out to other traffic citizens that want to come back home, we need support in order to raise the funding” she said.

Abdulahi Usman, Controller of Immigration, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos while commending Hon. Akande-Sadipe for effort in ensuring trapped Nigerian girls victim of human trafficking are rescued said People that have no reason to travel should not travel.

“We are happy with what she is doing in helping trapped Nigerian girls come home. My advice is if young girls must travel they should travel under surveillance, don’t travel alone, there are a lot of deception there, all these once are outcome of deception. There are so many of them languishing. International organisation of Migration (IOM) is doing their best. We have our IOM in person of Hon. Akande-Sadipe, if we have a lot of people that can assist us this way, we will be happy” he said.

The traffic victim, Miss Nofy (Not real name) after narrating her ordeal, beg other Nigerian youths seeking greener pasture abroad to stay in Nigeria as Nigeria is better than Oman and some other country.

“I want to tell others that wants to go abroad for greener pasture to stay back home. We have a better country than where we are rushing to be enslaves, sexually abused and even killed. The only problem in Nigeria is unemployment and we will overcome it with time. I want to say a big thank you to my mother, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, representing Oluyole, she is my mother now for rescuing me from Oman and Hon. Femi Adeyemi, Member, Nigerian Youth Parliament, Oyo Centre Senatorial Unit who I contacted while in Oman to help me get out of Oman. ”

It will be recalled that Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe won Trek Africa Newspaper Federal Lawmaker of the year Award at the seventh edition of Trek Africa National Discourse and Awards organised by Trek Africa Newspaper held at the prestigious Golden Gate, Ikoyi, Lagos. 

The award was co-presented to her shortly after the press briefing by Samson Oki, Publisher, Trek Africa Newspaper and Mr. Abdullahi Usman, Comptroller of Immigration, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

Akande-Sadipe said “Thanks so much for the award. I make commitment to continue to do whatever I can do in my power to ensure that the girl-child is protected. I want to let every man remember that his mother was once a girl-child”.
