The Onipokia of Ipokia kingdom, Oba Yisa Olaniyan has told the Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ogun 1 Area Command, Peter Kolo, to warn his men against the incessant killing of innocent souls in Ipokia Local Government.
DAILY POST reports that indigenes of Ipokia Local Government have been crying out over the reported killing of innocent souls by customs officers while chasing suspected smugglers.
During the recent End SARS protest, the youths of the border area stormed the NCS area command in Idiroko, demanding an end to the killings.
On Monday, the Onipokia added his voice to the call when the Controller paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ipokia.
The first-class Oba, who received Kolo in company with the Caretaker Chairman for Ipokia LG, Hon. Kabiru Abolurin, urged him to talk to his officers who he said are fond of shooting indiscriminately while engaging smugglers.
“Talk to your men to stop killing my people. The life of an individual is more valuable than 1,000 bags of rice. I don’t support smuggling or other illegal businesses but I won’t condone the killing of innocent souls in Ipokia Local Government,” the Onipokia said.
Also, the LG Chairman urged the new Controller to do everything within his power to put an end to killing in the area.
Abolurin assured Kolo of the readiness of the local government to support the NCS in the fight against smuggling, warning that this shall be done without murdering innocent individuals.
Reacting, the Controller appreciated the traditional ruler for accepting him and his entourage into his kingdom.
Kolo assured that there will be no killings under his watch, saying “I will not allow that to happen.”
