The Nigeria Police, Yobe State Command has placed a ban on the use of fireworks, firecrackers, bangers as well as other explosives during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state.
ASP Dungus Abdulkareem, the Command’s Public Relations Officer in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Thursday in Damaturu also warned that the display or brandishing of weapons and other dangerous objects of any kind under the pretext of celebration remained unlawful as such acts will not be tolerated.
According to the PPRO, the Police have taken action to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
The statement read in part: “In view of the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations coming up on 25th December 2020 and 1st January, 2021 respectively, Yobe State Police Command wishes to reiterate its commitment towards ensuring a hitch-free celebration.
“In pursuance of the above, the command wishes to restate that the ban on the use of fireworks, firecrackers, bangers, knockouts and other explosive devices should be strictly observed by all and sundry.
“Furthermore, the display or brandishing of weapons or dangerous objects of any kind, or any other violent conduct/disposition under the pretext of celebration remain unlawful as such acts will not be tolerated. Rather, it will be met with stiff resistance”.
ASP Abdulkareem on behalf of the Command, however, sought the cooperation of patriotic citizens of the state to confide in the Police and other security agencies by giving useful information and prompt reporting of suspicious person(s), movements or objects around their vicinity to the Police or other security agencies nearest to them.
