The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) recently set the pace as partners in progress to honour some distinguished Nigerians for their immense contribution to promoting national security in all spheres of life during its annual dinner and award event tagged ‘NAOSNP Dinner & Award ‘20’ held at the NERDC Conference Centre, Alausa-Ikeja, Lagos.
NAOSNP is a body of professional journalists and publishers across Nigeria known for covering security, extensive investigative reporting and other allied beats with special focus on intelligence news reportage, investigative journalism, knowledge based research, exchange and cross fertilization of creative ideas aimed at mitigating security challenges in all sector of the national economy.
After a rigorously process of selection, NAOSNP Dinner Award Committee unanimously voted for the distinguished Nigerians in recognition of their giant strides in the area of security of lives, properties, instituting infrastructural and human capital development and programmes that is reinforcing socio-political and economic development for the teeming populace. All awardees stands out especially for their exemplary humanitarian contribution that has impacted the society positively still while ensuring safe and secured business environment.
In his welcoming speech, the President of NAOSNP, Mr. Samson Oki noted that the association works in cooperation with all the national security agencies and corporate security organizations with a view to promoting security and checkmating the spread of fake news in the social media space. He, then, charged newsmen especially investigative journalists to ensure check and balance in their reportage and give room for equity and fairness.
The Commandant of Police Training School, Ikeja, DCP Musa Yusuf Garba (fisn, iips, csp) in his speech expressed worry and displeasure at the display of the Nigerian media agencies particularly as it relates to reportage of security issues.
He advised members of the security news association, ‘this is where your National Association of Online Security News Publishers NAOSNP should distinguish themselves as a conglomerate of professional media experts to change the situation. There is also need to use your platform to promote and create more awareness about the activities and successes of the Nigerian Police in its quest to rid the country of criminals.’
‘Online platforms and particularly social media are very effective tools in the expression of opinions but many people have abused the privilege, and hence professionals and experts in this area like you should deploy your expertise to help in creating awareness and security consciousness among the citizenry which may improve citizen participation in building content and value-based society.’
On his part, the chairman of the occasion; the former National Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani, who bagged the award ‘NAOSNP Champion of the Voiceless’ reiterated ‘Security is everyone business despite the challenges of insecurity across the country, I’m very optimistic our great country will come out strong.’
HRH Queen Mother Chief (Mrs.) Temitope Ajayi, alias Mama Diaspora – Chairman, SV-Ned Inc. who bagged ‘NAOSNP Lifetime Achievement in Humanitarian Support & Security’ award restated her commitment to continue empowering and motivating the youths whom she described as bastion of strength and hope for the Nigerian economy.
“Winning this award tells me that people are watching and appreciating what I’m doing. The best thing for me is to keep helping people in every way I can, and I’m sure the award will help more people to come and support the Nigerian Young Adults to do greater work and make Nigeria Proud” she said.
Expressing her joy, the elegant and vibrant Vice Chair, Ikorodu Local Government, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba shared an important prediction ‘in the next 12 years, Nigeria would be a wonderful place to be’.
Theresa Moses, the Deputy Public Relations Officer, and Chairperson, NAOSNP Dinner Award Committee expressed the association’s unquantifiable appreciation to all awardees who sacrificed time to physically honour their invitation and to the ever supportive sponsors.
