Residents of Ilorin, Kwara State have flagrantly refused to comply with the Covid-19 safety protocols as spelt out by the State government to stem the second wave of the pandemic in the State.
Findings by DAILY POST in Ilorin revealed that most residents of the State capital, who attended social gatherings during the ongoing festivities, failed to comply with the safety guidelines of the government.
Recall that the state government spelt out new restrictions, including partial 12a.m to 4.30a.m lockdown, compulsory wearing of face masks in public space, washing of hands with soap, and use of sanitizers, and gatherings not exceeding 50 percent of the capacity of the venues.
The government also banned carnivals, clubbing and concerts till further notice, as part of the measures to mitigate the community spread of the deadly virus in the State.
It equally asked commercial transporters to enforce the safety protocols by ensuring that their passengers complied with the safety guidelines.
The government further warned that violators would have sanctions, as security agencies would employ legal means to enforce the order and bring them to book.
However, our Correspondent observed that the safety guidelines are not being complied with and enforcement by security agencies is not in place.
DAILY POST observed at most social gatherings in Ilorin, the State capital, that only few residents are complying with the safety guidelines spelt out by the government.
Traders and buyers who patronize the major markets in the State capital are also violating the safety guidelines, as only very few people complied with the order by the government.
Commercial transporters also don’t bother whether their passengers wear face masks or not, in addition to throwing the issue of social distancing to the winds.

Only recently, the state Chairman of the Medical Advisory committee, Covid-19, Dr Femi Oladiji, cautioned residents to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 safety protocols as the second wave of the virus spiked in the State.
He blamed the spike on the attitude of many residents and non-adherence to the safety guidelines spelt out by the State government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, as well as influx of people into the State from other States and overseas.
