President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the family, friends, colleagues and the Nigerian Army over the death of Major General Cyril Iweze.
Iweze hailed from Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
In a statement on Thursday by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, Buhari recalled Iweze’s discipline and gallantry.
He called him an officer and gentleman that distinguished himself, holding key positions from a young Company Commander to Chief of Operations at Army Headquarters.
Iweze was also Chief of Staff of the West African Peace Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) between 1990 and 1991.
The Nigerian leader urged young officers to emulate the departed, who was decorated with many service medals.
Buhari prayed that the soul of the deceased rest in peace and asked God to comfort all those who mourn him.
