- As Nigerian Police records unprecedented 83,538 promotions
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu, psc (+)Faisson, dfisn has today decorated deserving officers under his zone who have just been promoted to the enviable rank of DCPs and ACPs at Zone 2 headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
The current promotion which is unprecedented in the history of the Nigerian Police had a staggering eighty-three thousand, five hundred and thirty-eight (83,538) officers and men of the force elevated to higher ranks. The officers and men promoted cuts across the ranks of Constable to Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The break down of the promotion are as follows: AIG to DIG (3), CP to DIG (1), CP to AIG (13), DCP to CP (23), ACP to DCP (29), CSP to ACP (91), ASP to CSP (599), SGT to INSPR (56,779), CPL to SGT (17,569), PC to CPL (8,431).
It is worthy of note that twenty-one (21) officers who lost their lives during the #EndSARS violent protest across the country also got posthumous promotion while another one hundred and twenty-one (121) officers who were victims of #EndSARS protest were equally promoted.
Speaking at the Zone 2 decoration ceremony, AIG Iliyasu appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Adamu Mohammed, NPM, mni and the Police Service Commission for identifying and promptly promoting these deserving officers. He said this promotion exercise was not only aimed at boosting the morale of officers, but also focused on strategically positioning experienced, highly qualified and professionally-endowed officers to provide the required leadership to actualize the purpose or goal of efficiently policing the nation.
Charging the decorated officers, AIG Iliyasu said: ‘As strategic leaders, you have onerous responsibility in providing quality leadership and lead by example not by precepts. You should note that the quality of leadership provided by you, determines the ability to achieve your strategic duty of securing the nation. You should be able to effectively maximise both human and material resources at your disposal to achieve optimum result at managing any emerging internal security issues. Your leadership must be above board in and outside your official duty and you must have the loyalty of your officers and men and the support of the members of the public to succeed.’
The Assistant Inspector General heartily congratulates all officers promoted and decorated today and advised: ‘The nation and the police expect so much from you. You cannot afford to disappoint the teeming population of Nigerians yearning for safe and secured nation. The Almighty God will give you the strength and wisdom to excel in this onerous task”.
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, DCP Waheed Ayilara thanked the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission through the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, for what they have done for the promotion. “Promotion comes but from God. This promotion has taken us to the next level. There might be challenges that will come but we must braze ourselves to serve our nation to the best of our ability. My message to the promotees, they should try and do more; it’s not easy over there. The higher you go the tougher it becomes but try and do more to justice your new promotion” he said.
