The Niger State Police command has revealed that no fewer than two thousand, Two Hundred and Nineteen (2, 219) Police Officers and men were promoted to the next ranks on merit in 2020 in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP, Adamu Usman made the disclosure during the Decoration Ceremony of the recently promoted Ten Police Officers/Presentation of Awards at the Police Officers Mess, Minna.
“In the last 12 months, a total of 2,219 officers and men of the command were promoted on merit”
“These comprise of one CSP to ACP, 21 SP to CSP, 5 DSP to SP, 4 ASP to DSP, 282 Inspectors to ASPs, 1,120 Sergeants to Inspectors and 521 Corporals to Sergeants and 264 Constables to Corporals.”
Speaking on the ten newly promoted officers, Usman explained that their promotion was based on the principle of seniority and merit as well as a reflection of their record of discipline and invaluable experience.
He urged the officers to use their wealth of experience in achieving the mandate of the Police in the face of the current internal security challenges in the state.
“Be civil to citizens and be guided by the rule of law. In addition, you must demonstrate sound professional judgement in all decisions, knowing that you could be called to account for your actions or inactions.”
Speaking on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Yahaya Isah, who was promoted from the position of Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, thanked the Police Service Commission for the promotion.
He also appreciated the state Commissioner of Police for recommending them for the promotion.
During the ceremony about 29 deserving officers and men who have performed exceptionally well were presented with awards to boost their morals.
