Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has set up a COVID-19 committee to check the rate of transmission of the deadly viral disease around the university.
The Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Chinyere Okunna who disclosed this said the reason for the inauguration of the committee was to put the transmission of the second wave of the virus in check, within the university community.
She said, “With the 2nd and more devastating wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic now sweeping across the world, with infection and mortality rates also dangerously rising in Nigeria, the COVID-19 Committee of Nnamdi Azikiwe University has swung into action to safeguard the University Community from the Pandemic.
“At its meeting today in the University’s Council/Senate Chambers, it was decided that the Committee will intensify its activities in anticipation of the resumption of academic activities.
“To begin with, the Committee will fully monitor the forthcoming Deanship Elections to ensure full compliance with all COVID-19 Protocols,” she said.
DAILY POST correspondent who visited the institution found that visitors, students and staff were banned from accessing certain offices without full compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
Notices were seen pasted on doors to offices with instruction for visitors to wear facemasks before entry.
