A former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has raised some questions concerning the ongoing National Identity Number, NIN, registration.
The former lawmaker wonders why the Federal Government should continue to allocate money for National Census if all Nigerians must register for NIN.
Recall that the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, had yesterday announced the commencement of enrolment of foreign diplomats in Nigeria.
The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy had directed the setting up of an enrolment centre at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja in a bid to ensure seamless enrolment of all diplomats in the country.
It said the enrolment of the diplomats started on Monday, 18th January 2021.
Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna central district in the 8th Assembly, questioned the government’s decision to enrol foreigners.
In a tweet on Saturday, Sani said, “If foreigners are obliged to register for NIN then it can’t be considered as ‘National Identity’.
“And if all Nigerians must do it then of what use is allocating money for National Census?”
