The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Gusau, Professor Magaji Garba for alleged abuse of office, corrupt practices and contract scam.
According to sources at the EFCC, Professor Garba was invited for questioning last Thursday, after which he was detained.
The source further disclosed that the embattled VC had collected the sum of N260 million from one Alhaji Shehu Sambo, the owner of Ministaco Nigeria Limited, sometime in 2018, with an understanding that the university was going to award him a contract worth N3 billion for the construction of the school’s perimeter fence.
Sambo petitioned the EFCC after the institution failed to award him the contract.
“The VC is still being grilled by investigators at the EFCC, who are interested in knowing what happened to the money.”
When contacted, Wilson Uwajuren, the spokesman of the anti-graft agency, confirmed the arrest.
