The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has urged the President Buhari-led government to leverage on the ECOWAS transhumance certificate protocol, to check the influx of herdsmen from neighbouring countries.
The group also called on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to distinguish its name (Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria) with that of a newly registered organisation bearing the same Miyetti Allah.
MACBAN also wants the federal government to take immediate action against a local criminal gang known as “Yansakai” operating majorly in Kebbi and Niger States and who, according to them{MACBAN) are involved in wanton killings.
The call was contained in a statement jointly signed by Alhaji Muhammad Kiruwa, President, and Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, National Secretary of the Association respectively on Thursday in Abuja.
The apex Fulani social-cultural group lamented the deteriorating security situation in the country, which has its members stereotyped and blamed for.
Similarly, he urged the Federal Government to decisively deal with the issue of porous borders, which made it possible for the massive proliferation of arms.
“The meeting once again called on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to distinguish its name (Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria) with that of a newly registered organisation bearing the same Miyetti Allah, so as not to confuse the public.
“The meeting also appealed to the Federal Government to take immediate action against local criminal gangs known as ‘Yansakai’ in Kebbi and Niger states, who are involved in wanton killings of 153 innocent pastoralists.”
Fulani herdsmen have been accused of involvement in criminal offences against their host communities across the country, leading to several eviction notices against them.
Many communities in the South have recently issued eviction notices to Fulani communities in the region.
MACBAN made the demands after a meeting with the Chairman of its Board of Trustees and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Recall that about 37 herdsmen alongside 5,000 of their cattle were on Thursday ejected from forest reserves across Ondo State.
They were ejected by operatives of the Amotekun Corps after being accused of flouting the earlier order of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Governor Akeredolu had ordered that herdsmen grazing in the forest reserves should either register with the appropriate agencies or vacate the reserve.
