The Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade will swear in the substantive Chief Judge of the State on Monday.
In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Tina Banku Agbor, Ayade said Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme swearing-in as the Chief Judge of the state follows the confirmation of her nomination by the state assembly.
“His Excellency, Senator Prof Ben Ayade, the Governor of Cross River State will on Monday 8th February 2021 in the Executive council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Calabar, swear in Hon Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the Chief Judge of Cross River State.
“This follows the confirmation of her nomination by the Cross River State House of Assembly. Accordingly, the Hon Speaker and members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Members of the state Executive Council and the Judiciary are cordially invited to attend the event.”
A member, representing Calabar Municipality, in the House of Assembly and the former Chairman Judicial Committee in the House, Hon EFA Esua said Gov Ayade has not offended any provision of the law for swearing her in, later than expected.
“Even though the Governor is going to swear her in on Monday, over a week after confirmation, he has not offended any law. We congratulated the Chief Judge and Governor Ayade and hope peace will return to the judiciary,” he said.
