President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Buhari had sent Bawa’s name to the Senate for confirmation as EFCC’s Chairman.
Bawa’s nomination was disclosed by the president’s spokesman, Femi Adesina.
If confirmed that Bawa will be taking over from Mohammed Umar Abba, who was appointed as Acting Chairman by Buhari last year, following the suspension of the immediate past acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu.
However, here are six facts about Bawa.
Bawa is a 40-year-old senior operative of the anti-graft agency.
He is a trained investigator who possesses experience in the investigation and prosecution of Advance Fee Fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, money laundering, and other economic crimes.
Bawa, who is a pioneering EFCC Cadet Officer in 2005 has undergone some specialised training in different parts of the world.
He holds a BSc degree in Economics and a Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy.
Prior to his appointment, Bawa was the Lagos zonal head of the EFCC.
He will be taking over from Mohammed Umar, who has been in an acting capacity since July 2020 after Ibrahim Magu’s suspension over allegations of corruption.
