Buthelezi said the Zulu king led his nation with dignity.
“His Majesty’s reign continued an unbroken lineage of kings. Indeed, we’re protected by the shield for which our kings and ancestors probably waged war.”
RAMAPHOSA EULOGY
President Cyril Ramaphosa said that AmaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini played a significant role in the achievement of democracy during the tumultuous period of political transition in South Africa.
Ramaphosa delivered the eulogy at the king’s funeral in KwaNongoma in KwaZulu-Natal.
He said that the king would be remembered for his role for bringing peace and stability, especially to KwaZulu-Natal during a difficult time that South Africa went through.
“Working together with a number of other leaders and especially former President Jacob Zuma, they worked to ensure together that there is peace in this province.”
Dignitaries have descended on the royal palace to pay their final respects to the Zulu monarch following the king’s interment in the early hours of this morning.
The private ceremony was only attended by close male relatives.
LOAD SHEDDING SUSPENDED
The AmaZulu nation is honouring their late king in the ceremony that’s being watched across the country, owing to Eskom’s suspension of load shedding for the event.
Eskom has promised to keep the power on until 2 pm but after that, it’s back to frustrating stage two blackouts.
