In the Eastern Cape, 15,000 frontline workers have been vaccinated in just over a month.
The province has 392 active COVID-19 cases — the lowest in the country.
Health authorities say the vaccination programme is running smoothly.
“At this point, it’s working like well-oiled machinery,” said Sibongile Zungu, the province’s acting Superintendent-General.
“We did struggle a bit with the load-shedding a couple of days this week. But it’s going quite well and now we have such a high demand for vaccines.
“That working with MRC, we are now starting to have sites that are far from the research site,” Zungu said.
The Eastern Cape government hopes that by the time the third wave arrives, the vaccination of frontline workers will be complete.
