…says Boko Haram is ignorance of 30 years ago
By Theresa Moses
Senator Rochas Okorocha, has said that Boko Haram insurgents we are experiencing today was as a result of the ignorance of 30 years ago when we refused to send children to school.
He admonished leaders at all levels to take advantage of every opportunity to “send every child to school to be educated so that in the next 30 years, we won’t experience similar terrorist act like Boko Haram.
Okorocha, a former Governor, Imo State, therefore, assured Nigerians that the country will not break despite the prevailing spate of banditry, killings, poverty, anger, tribal sentiment that are becoming a national discourse affecting the country.
While making a remarks during an award Night and book launch organised by the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC) in Abuja, he said “there has been so much banditry, killings, poverty, anger in the land. Therefore, so many people are hostile to one another and while most tribes are talking about secession. However, I am happy today to see Nigerians united under one roof.
“I want to assure you that Nigeria cannot break and will never break. What is happening now is a situation that we must raise together to overcome.
“Countries like America, China and Germany all have gone through these things and Nigeria is no exception. Nigeria will overcome it. I am convinced that Nigeria shall survive this and will be one of the greatest nation in the world”.
Speaking on the 2023 elections, Senator Okorocha reiterated: “Let me talk to you about the 2023 elections, I want to urge you to choose wisely this time. It’s not easy being Vice Chairman or Vice President. I want to commend you, if somebody can be a Vice Chairman for four years then the person possesses the power to be a chairman. I introduced community governance council as democracy is for the people by the people and for the people. So you’re the democrat, until we centralized power, if power remains in Abuja, we will fail on the same issues.
“I believe until the local government takes the issues of agriculture and education seriously, our people will be in pains”.
As an elder statesman, Rochas want to partner with Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC) especially states and capitals like Sokoto, Yola, Bauchi, Zaria, Jos, Kano, Owerri etc where we have Rochas Okorocha Foundation.
“Please, as you go back home, if you find any less privileged child that is an orphan with no mother and father and is not going to school, please send that child through your chairmen and that child will get free education. That is what I have decided to do for the sake of humanity.
“The Boko Haram of today was the ignorance of 30 years ago when we refused to send children to school. Today, let’s send every child to school so that in the next 30 years, we won’t see another Boko Haram,” Okorocha re-emphasized.
