Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has asked the general public to disregard claims concerning sex for roles in Nollywood.
The term ‘sex for roles’ connotes a situation where an up-and-coming actor or actress would be asked to engage in a sexual relationship with a higher colleague before being given a role in a movie.
Speaking about this via his Instagram page on Wednesday, Kanayo asked the public not to believe what they were being told concerning the issue of sex for roles.
The actor, however, posited that many up-and coming actresses do not work hard and professionally act out their script as expected; a situation he described as shameful.
Sharing a picture of a movie set on his page, the veteran said, “When you hear of sex for roles in Nollywood, please do not believe all you are told. Many of the girls are not working hard to live up to the roles they are cast for. Quite a shame.”
Many Nollywood stars have, however, insisted in the past that sex for roles was prevalent in the Nigerian movie scene.
Celebrities who have openly condemned the act include Ini Edo, Charity Nnaji, Uche Maduagwu, and a host of others.
