A bridge in Pittsburgh, which was covered in snow, collapsed on Friday morning, free hours before the President of the United States, Joe Biden, was expected to visit the city.
Biden had previously planned on visiting the city to discuss infrastructure before the unfortunate incident.
According to the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Ed Gainey, no fatalities were recorded, CNN reported.
The head of fire service, Darryl Jones, noted that ten people had ‘minor injuries’ and while three were hospitalised, none of the injuries were life threatening.
Jones also revealed that four vehicles were on the bridge when it fell and the cause of the collapse was still being investigated.
He noted that rescue teams were performing reconnaissance to ensure no one was under the bridge when it collapsed.
The city’s bridges are routinely inspected, Jone assured, adding, “If there was any warning or concern, we would have been notified and we would have made sure that we didn’t use this route.”
“So this one caught everybody by surprise this morning,” he said.
