The Police have repelled an attack by terrorists who invaded Fadimawa village Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The Spokesman for the Katsina police command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the development on Friday.
Residents said that the terrorists had attacked the village in the early hours of Thursday at 1 am and rustled an unspecified number of animals.
The police in Kurfi who were alerted of the attack reportedly moved to the village and engaged the terrorists in a gun duel, during which all the rustled animals were recovered.
An unspecified number of terrorists were also said to have escaped into the forest with gunshots wounds.
Confirming the incident, Isah said, “On January 27, 2022, at about 1a.m, terrorist-bandits in their numbers, attacked Fadimawa village, Kurfi LGA and rustled an unspecified number of domestic animals. DPO Kurfi led a team of policemen to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel.
“The operational strategy and gallantry displayed by the team made them overpower the hoodlums and recovered all the stolen animals. Many of the terrorists have escaped with bullet injuries. Search parties are still combing the nearby bushes with a view to arresting the hoodlums and/or recovering their dead bodies. An investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, seven victims of human trafficking have been rescued from Yankara village, Koza District, Mai’adua Local Government Area of the state.
The police rescued the victims who were abandoned in a criminal hideout in the village after their traffickers ran off.
SP Isah said police had stormed the hideout last Thursday following an intelligence report.
He explained,” On January 20, 2022 (Thursday) at about 11.20 a.m, based on credible intelligence, the Command raided a criminal hideout at Yankara village, Koza District, Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina state and rescued the following victims of human trafficking hiding in the house: Success Oshoopkeme, ‘Female’, aged 20 years; of Asoko Local Government Area, Edo State; Isaac Debora,( Female), aged 20 years, of Ugunagbo Local Government Area, Abia state; Amoruwa Ade, (Male), aged 28 years, of Irede Local Government Area, Ondo state; James Rebecca, (Female), aged 20 years, of Minna Local Government Area of Niger State; Emmanuel Godwin, (Male), aged 22 years, of Eka North Local Area of Delta state; Zainab Tijjani, (Female) aged 21 years, of Ibadan, Oyo state and Taofik Olawale, aged 27 years, also of Ibadan, Oyo state.
“In the course of the investigation, victims stated that they were brought to the village by their agent, who on sighting the police team, took to his heels and escaped with their GSM phones. They further stated that they are on their route from Nigeria to Libya through the Niger Republic border. Investigation is ongoing. They will be handed over to NAPTIP office, Kano, for further investigation and arrest of the traffickers.”
