A Shari’a Court sitting in Kano, on Friday, sentenced a 45-year-old man, Ado Muhammad, to three years in a correctional centre for defrauding the complainant, Nura Iliyasu, the sum of N1.3 million.
The judge, Malam Isah Rabiu-Gaya, who convicted Muhammad, however, gave him an option of N30,000 fine and further ordered the defendant to pay the complainant N1.3mn..
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Aliyu Abideen, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September.14, 2021 at Kunya town, Kano.
According to him, on the same date Iliyasu entrusted the money to the convict to purchase a motor vehicle for him, Muhammad converted the cash to his own personal use.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 312 and 322 of the Kano State Shari’a Law 2000.
