Some officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Gombe State command, have alleged that they were being extorted by the management.
The officers claimed they were forced to pay N200 before they were given emolument forms, adding that they paid an additional N2000 for promotion letter.
The officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were surprised about the emolument form charge which was given out at the National headquarters for free.
The group claimed that they were asked to write undertakings that their money would be paid in January salaries before their letters of promotion were given to them .
They added, “As well as N200 for emolument forms. We had no option than to comply with the directives given by the command.
“We are calling on the national headquarters to do the needful by constituting a committee to investigate the matter.”
Reacting to the allegations, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sa’ad Buhari, debunked the claims, saying that they were efforts of dissatisfied officers.
Buhari said, “It is a lie. It is the handiwork of some disgruntled officers who want to dent the image of the corps. They just want to dent the hard earned image of NSCDC.”
He further challenged those accusing the management of extortion to present their evidence, noting that the corps has a reputation to protect.
“Such has never happened and I challenge them if they have evidence, let them bring it forward,” Buhari added.
