FC Copenhagen head coach, Jess Thorup, believes former Nigeria U-17 forward, Akinkunmi Amoo, will be an asset to the club both in the short and long term.
Amoo joined the Danish side on a four-year deal worth €4.3m on Monday, according to football statistics website, Transfermarkt, from Swedish side Hammarby.
The 19-year-old scored 13 goals, providing six assists in 48 appearances for the Swedish side. He joined Hammarby from Nigerian academy Sidos in 2020.
Reacting to the signing, Thorup says Amoo will be an asset to the club, “Both in the short and long term, I am sure he will be a great asset to us,” Thorup told the club website.
“He is an absolutely incredible athlete and can really put people off with his dribbles. He brings that degree of X-factor and a new threat into our offensive play, where we are going to have a lot of options to utilise.”
Amoo said he was excited to join the 13-time Danish champions, saying he hopes to develop and become a better player.
“FCK is an international club with ambitions to compete against the biggest teams in Europe, and I was really attracted to be part of these ambitions,” Amoo told the club website.
“There have been other opportunities for me along the way, but I feel that FCK is the correct next step for me in terms of career. Here I can develop and learn a lot together with the fantastic players that the club already has.”
